about
So, I'm hearing when or once - developed:
Slide Guitar and possibly Bass (maybe), - huhhh, I've kinda forgot what now, I should'a wrote it down..., maybe (Harmonica? - no), ah, yes,
- Banjitar and or Nashville Tuned Gtr and another voice.
I didn't think "noodling" would "serve the song" so, didn't consider that, esp over the twang of a gtr slide up/down/etc.
lyrics
D / / /
Bury me not on the lone prairie,
/ / / A
These words came low and mournfully
A / / /
From the pallid lips of a youth who lay
/ / / D
On his dying bed..., at the close of day.
D / / /
He endured his pain. 'till over his brow
/ A
Death's shadows fast gathering now;
A / / /
He thought of his home and his loved ones near
/ / / D
As the cawboys gathered to see him there
(harmony up)
D / / /
0h bury me not on the lone prairie
/ / / A
Where the wild cayotes will howl over me,
A / / /
In a narrow grave just six by three,
/ / / D
Oh bury me not on the lone prairie.
G / / /
In fancy I listen to the well known words
A / / /
Of the free, wild winds and the song of the birds;
G / / /
Oh think of home, the cottage in the bower
A / / A
And dreams I loved in my childhood's hour.
D / / /
Bury me not on the lone prairie,
/ / / A //
These words came low and mournfully
A / / /
From the pallid lips of a youth who lay
/ / / D // //
On his dying bed..., at the close of day.
G / / /
Let my slumber be where my families prayer
A / / /
And a dear one's tear will mingle there,
G /
Where my friends can come and meet with me
A / / /
Oh bury me not on the lone prairie.
D / / /
And there you'll find, a broken shovel
D / A
Where I lied about buried gold
A / / /
But the gold's still there, deep in that shovel
A D
A strong back and songwriter, will meet you there
D / / /
Bury me not on the lone prairie,
/ / / A
These words came low and mournfully
A / / /
From the pallid lips of a youth who lay
/ / / D
On his dying bed..., at the close of day.

- It's a rough a demo. as rough as I've done in a while. However, I do not want to get bogged down on making'em "pretty"?, - versus getting more framed out.
And as prima facia, find that Lomax book if interested, (links all over initial posts or search for title and archive, .edu, etc.) - if want to compare what it was (*6 pages long of a die'n song, o m g...) to my work here now, - actually, an entirely different compiled lyric, of many songs, really. (The Lomax book notes they picked "a way" to show it that one time as to how "likely", mostly formatted :) hahhh, okay, okay... - Cowboy's were strict, structured musicians as we all know ;)
The original music, if really was any, was just spoken word syntax, notation from what I've seen, and of course as, that goes! :) one, two chords, sung from a saddle or campfire with the Internet was down, back in 1700's..., America!
