Leadsheet/worksheet, still, likely gonna change, we'll see :) For now: White Yankee Stains (c) 2021 ustaknow (alias) A I'll sing you a song, though it may be a sad one E Of trials and troubles where they first begun E I left my dear kindred, my friends and my home A Across the wild deserts and mountains to roam A I crossed the missouri and joined a large train E Which brought me over, valleys and plains E And often of evenings out hunting I'd go A To shoot the fleet antelope and wild buff-a-lo D I'd heard the Indians, out in the plains A Go back where you came from, you White Yankee stains E When captured by Indians, no mercy they'd show A So we moved ahead, and they didn't know... A We traveled three weeks, till we came to the Platte E We pitched out our tents, at the end of the flat We spread down our blankets on the green grassy ground A While our horses, and mules, were grazing around D While taking a meal we heard that low yell A The whoop of the Indians, yelling like hell... E Go back where you came from, you White Yankee stains A We don't want you here, no where near here... D I'll sing you a song, though it may be a sad one A Of trials and troubles where they first begun E I left my dear kindred, my family, my home A Across the wild deserts and mountains to roam

In the moment leadsheet/worksheet as it is presently: No Bad Fish (c) 2021 ustaknow (alias)("Sioux Indians", Lomax, p.57) A They made a bold dash, and came near our train E // Their arrows found round us like hail and like rain... We tried to make friends, and feed them a cold dish A // // Some - thing day old, should not have been fish D We got to their Chief, at the thead of his band A // We tried like a warrior to feed him that fish E When they saw their bold chief, hurling that dish A // // They whooped and they hollared, that's just not de-lish! A So with our small band we're just twenty-four E // And with all the Indians there were so many more We all looked around for some other gift A And yelled give'm the Bullet-Rye and oh that was swift // // D Then we hitched up our horses and we started our train A // Three more bloody hang-overs this trip on the plain; E And in our last food battle, three boys doubled in pain A And we left them to rest in their green patchy stain ["One More Time"... makes a whole song :) 2x's through?]

Utah Carroll (c) 2021 ustaknow (alias) (Lomax, pp.66-68) (CBS_03/"cowboy song") And as my friend you ask me, what makes me sad and still, And why my brow is darkened, like the clouds upon the hill Run your pony closer, and I’ll tell to you the tale, Of Ut - ah Carroll, his last ride on the trail Mid the cactus and thistle, of Mexico’s fair land, Where the cattle roam in thousands, a-many a herd and brand, There’s a grave no headstone, no date, nor a name There, lies, my partner, in the land from which I came We rode the range together, we rode it side by side, I loved him like a brother, I wept when Uu-tah died We were rounding up one morning, our work was almost done, When the cattle started running, and some spirit took hold of them Ole’Utah he got trampled, but went down making burgers and fries As the cattle rushed in and killed him, he dropped them like Wendy’s fries And in some future morning, I hope we’ll meet again, And wrap those burgers in bacon, and eat, chili fries

This old American heritage song, was a long one, 26 versus, now 6, or past away's :) 4 min's. Pre 1899 -ish, no TV, no Internet, no Radio, so, these guys were "it"! You can look up C.J! that Lomax captured for us and see what I did in the rewrite. Again, the book falls open and I take on the lyric challenge, no matter what's there. And so this went, for now, anyway :) ================================================= 26 past 6 - California Joe (c) 2021 ustaknow (alias) [J.A. Lomax re-write, 26 versus to 6] D Well mates, I don't like' stories A Nor am I going to act G A part around the campfire G That ain't a truthful fact D So fill your pipes and listen well, A I'll tell you -let me see - G I think it was in fif - ty, G From that till sixty-three. D I'd hitched my horses quickly A And waded up a stream; G While down close beside the waters G I heard a muffled scream. D And there among the bushes A A little, girl, did lie G I picked her up and whis-pered, G "I'll save you or I'll die" D She was only thirteen, A I was twenty-two G Nine years was such a distance, G So felt like a sister new D New family by this chance, A We all do get so few G So I saved her life safe and sound G And put her on solid ground Df# Then off I rode, long into my life Ee And I wonder kindly, if even could be Gd That I had just saved for myself, Gd Dd // // My future wife indeed That memory's been my pleasure That brook, kept plainly seen Like a long thread of silver In a cloth of lovely green; The laughter of the water, The cooing of that dove, Was like some painted picture, Some well-told tale of love Ten years I passed, long that saddle And I found myself riding her way I came upon that very stream I heard her cry that day I followed that ten year echo Kind love I'd hoped had grown From that tender, gentle soul To something time had sewn When off I rode, long into my life And I wondered kindly, if even could be Could I've just saved for myself, My future wife indeed // // My still strong arms did find her there "I'll save you now 'till I die" I clasped her to my bosom's care My heart embossed dove cried "It's better to always save a life It's better to always do good" `Stead of burning every bridge, Or stranger, there's no cost Then off we rode into a life And wandered kindly there We'd just saved for ourself Our future life indeed

Not in Albuquerque nor Memphis Did we stop, And in no time we made it, Me and Black Betty, best But hate darkens o'er me, Despair is my lot, And the law does pursue me For the many I've shot; To save me, poor brute, Thou hast done thy best, Thou art worn out and weary, My Black Betty' best In years past my death When long dead and gone, This story will be handed From father to son; My fate some will pity, My fate some caress This outlaw never caught, 'Cause of my Black Betty' best So this songs for you, Your cold black steel You warmed quickly for me To penetrate and free You took all that heat And in between rough shots You too supplied meat My best Black Beauty, my Black Betty' best
